GAS Heat treatment
is a heat treating process under various gas atmosphere and temperature mainly to improve hardness, wear resistance and fatigue or tensile strength properties of industrial parts in order to prolong their lifespan and improve their properties to suit specific usability.
Gas Heat Treatment process divided into 4 techniques
1) Carburizing Quenching and Tempering
Is the method to increase surface hardness of mild or low alloy steels using heating and adding Carbon into the surface of material without changing the toughness of the core, make the steel get high strength and hardness.
2) Carbonitriding Quenching and Tempering
Is the modified process of carburizing by adding Nitrogen from Ammonia into carbon-rich gas with suitable for low carbon steel without alloy containing.
3) Quenching and Tempering
Quenching Process is rapid cooling as immersion of part in oil or water which increase hardness and wear resistance of steel.
Tempering is heating process to decrease strength of test pieces.
4) Gas Soft NitridingIs a thermo-chemical treatment that involves diffusion of both Nitrogen and Carbon into surface of ferrous materials and form compound layer that increase hardness and wear resistance. This technique is suitable for low carbon steel to alloy
